We are a family owned and operated business and love cruising these Downeast Maine waters more than anything else.  For 16 years, we have been taking our friends and family on sight seeing cruises departing from Milbridge Landing and Bar Harbor.  We enjoyed showing people the beautiful and interesting water view sights so much that we decided to offer the same for others with our business Downeast Coastal Cruises.  We pride ourselves in making sure your cruise is one to remember.  Both Esther and Harry have extensive seamanship experience and are both certified in CPR and First Aid; see their histories below:

 

  
  Captain Esther Shinn is a United States Coast Guard certified Captain and has over 15 years of offshore seamanship experience.  For 10 years Esther worked on offshore fishing vessels out of Cape Cod often on the Grand Banks.  Esther's grandfather Gerald Hopkins was a lobster fisherman out of Stonington, Maine and often had Esther as a helper on the boat.  Esther has been cruising the coast of Maine for over 4 years departing Milbridge.

 
  Captain Harry "Buzzy" Shinn is a United States Coast Guard certified Captain with over 25 years of offshore seamanship experience. Harry is a third generation certified sea captain.  Harry's grandfather Charles Shinn and father Marvin "Cap" Shinn operated commercial fishing vessels most of their lives.  Marvin often had Harry on board as a young boy.  Marvin owned and operated a 70 foot steel trawler for 20 years often hiring Harry as a deck hand and to operate the vessel.  Harry has lived and cruised inland and offshore waterways of Maine for over 15 years.

The Alyce K is a 1996 26 foot Shamrock Mackinaw.  She is a full keel fiberglass hull propelled with a brand new 2006 inboard gasoline engine.  There is a full open stern  area with ample seating for your party, a fully enclosed cabin area, v-berth for nap time, and an on board enclosed bathroom (head).  Her hard chime hull design provides a smooth and stable ride with less rock and sway.

 

You will not be exposed to the smell of diesel fuel from the Alyce K.

 

We continually inspect and upgrade our boat to ensure we meet or exceed US Coast Guard regulations and provide you all the comfort you will need to focus on the sights of the Maine coast.  We would be glad to review all the safety points of our boat from lifesaving devices, electronic navigation, radio, fire extinguishers, our credentials, and the hull design that provides a level of protection in the rocky coastal Maine environment.
